Small Victories

Paintings (and other things) by Hannah Dean (and friends)

In this work, I paint my life experiences: as a woman, a mom, a wife, a family member, and a friend.

Watching kids play at the ice rink, enjoying a hike, walking the dog. Taking a deep breath, cooking, playing cards, cracking up at crappy TV—all experiences in which I feel removed from or a sense of distance by taking a photo of the experience.

Editorializing and posting things on social media exacerbates the loss I feel from these memories—an immediate nostalgia.

These traditional paintings and assemblage sculptures relive some of the small victories of being present in recent years.
