Stuff I Made Today (aka $#%& I Made Today or the Shit Show LBK)
$#%& Show 23/24 Guest Curator Christina Rees
Teams of artists were given the prompt "The Year 2050." Guest curator Christina Rees is the former Editor-in-Chief of Glasstire, a winner of the national Rabkin Prize for Art Criticism, and now works in the private sector in North Texas. For 2024’s $#%& Show, artists were divided into two teams: cat and dog.
Stuff I Made Today (2022)
For 2022, 11 invited artists met at 5&J Gallery in Lubbock 24 hours before the exhibition opened. Then, they selected a box containing a random object which they responded to in order to create, install, and light work before the exhibition opened. Stuff I Made Today (2018)
For 2018, artists had the prompt of using "found art" to create work. Several artists used thrift store art as a base. Cody Arnall had a video performance of himself copying Bruce Nauman, Maisie Marie Alford stacked a pile of Felix Gonzales Torrez's candy in the corner of the gallery, and more. Stuff I Made Today (2014)
The first Stuff I Made Today happened because of a last minute cancellation in 5&J Gallery--some artists agreed to fill in with their scheme of a material-based, time-constrained show. The first iteration was made of cardboard and all artists worked in the gallery, on site. (Feburary 2014, 5&J at CASP, Lubbock, Texas.) Image: Scotty Hensler fetching cardboard)
